Chief Minister unveiled the statue of Jhada Sirha

Inaugurated and laid foundation of 89 development works worth more than Rs 173 crore 44 lakh


Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, who is on a visit to attend Bastar Dussehra, unveiled a life-size statue of Jhada Sirha, a 'Jan Nayak' of Muria rebellion at Shaheed Smarak premise near Sirhasar Bhawan. On the occasion, Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid foundation for 89 development works worth more than Rs.173 crore 28 lakh in Bastar district. Chief Minister inaugurated 22 development works worth Rs 77 crore 38 lakh 72 thousand and performed Bhoomi Pujan of 67 development works worth Rs 95 crore 89 lakh 72 thousand. On this occasion Minister in-charge of the District and Industries Mr. Kawasi Lakhma, MP Mr. Deepak Baij, Bastar Traibal Development Authority Chairman Mr. Lakheshwar Baghel, Vice-Chairman Mr. Santram Netam, Mr. Vikram Mandavi, Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Rekhchand Jain, Chairman of Handicraft Development Board Mr. Chandan Kashyap, Chitrakote MLA Mr. Rajman Benzam, Mayor Mrs. Safira Shah, Municipal Corporation Chairman Mrs. Kavita Sah , Commissioner Mr. Shyam Dhawade, IG Mr. Sundar Raj P., Collector Mr. Chandan Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Jitendra Meena and other public representatives were present.

The statue of Shaheed Jhada Sirha has been installed near the Shaheed Smarak premise located at Sirhasar Chowk of the city. Martyr Jhada Sirha was born in Pargana Manjhi and Mati Pujari family in village Bade Arapur under Agarwara Pargana of Bastar district. He was a versatile personality. He was a knowledgeable herbalist, a skilled leader and an influential personality. He was the hero that led Muria Rebellion of 1876.

Under the leadership of Jhada Sirha during Muria rebellion, tribal people raised their voice against the opression and exploitation of Zamindars and British rulers. They fought to protect the primitive culture of Bastar, and strived to preserve the water, forest, land, protection of social customs.
