Koriya: Silken threads adding shine to people’s lives in forest zones

Groups joined Kosa manufacturing work; a yield of more than 10 lakh Kosa has been produced

With 9,178 Human Days, 147 beneficiaries received the benefits of employment


People residing in the forest zones of the district are being connected to livelihood activities for strengthening their social and economic status through various schemes of the State Government.  The Tasar Krimi Palan Yojana run by the Silk Division of the Gramodyog Department has emerged as an effective medium of employment in rural regions. Currently, in the district, three varieties of insect-rearing work are being undertaken: Mulberry, Tasar (Daba), and Natural Rally Kosa. Many groups are conducting sericulture in silk centers. The member of the Sericulture Group Committee of Village Urumduga in the Baikunthpur Development Block, Kumar Singh, said that he has been involved in sericulture work here after obtaining training from the Silk Department. This year, the group obtained 95,200 Kosa fruits in the first yield after rearing a thousand ovum groups, the approximate value of which is Rs. 2,09,440. He added that the work of rearing another thousand ovum groups in the second yield is in progress.

The Assistant Director of the Silk Department said that Daba cocoon is being produced under the Tasar Keet Palan Yojana in edible plants of forest blocks and Government Tasar Centers. Against the target of 65 thousand healthy ovum groups in 2022-23, a total of 47,322 healthy ovum groups have been reared in the first and second yields so far. He said that 10 lakh Kosa has been produced in the first yield, while the production of the second yield is under process. This year, through the Tasar edible plant maintenance and insect-rearing work, 9178 Human Days were created that benefitted 147 beneficiaries. Under the MGNREGA scheme, beneficiaries are being provided Arjun and Saja plantation work used in sericulture, nursery work, green-facing work, contour creation, etc.
